On August 22-23, 2015 in Cebu, Philippines, the 41st meeting of APEC Intellectual Property Rights Experts’ Group (IPEG) took place within the 3rd Senior Officials Meeting and related meetings. The representative of Rospatent took part in the meeting.
Information of APEC Secretariat on APEC current activities, including projects, was presented during the meeting. IPEG members exchanged the information on current amendments to national legislation of APEC economies and discussed certain aspects of IP protection and enforcement, as well as raising public awareness on IP issues.
APEC economies made update on implementation of number of APEC initiatives and projects. In particular, at present APEC economies implement “the Initiative to facilitate the exploitation of IPRs and innovation in SMEs”, proposed by Korea and Mexico. The Initiative is aimed at stimulation and promotion of innovation in SMEs and facilitation of the creation of IPR for the development of the APEC region.
The updated information on development and approval process of the project “IP commercialization for SMEs” that was initiated by Rospatent was presented to IPEG members. The project is one of the stages of implementation of the aforementioned Initiative. The project provides for holding a seminar in 2017 in Russia to exchange experience on the best practices in IP management and commercialization for SMEs. Co-sponsors of the project are Mexico, Viet Nam and Peru. Consideration of the project by APEC fora will be continued intersessionally.
The next 42nd IPEG meeting will be held in 1st quarter 2016 in Peru.
