On October 3 – 5, 2013, Mr. F. Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), visited Moscow as a guest of the Government of the Russian Federation.
The key event of the visit was the meeting between Mr. F. Gurry and the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mr. Medvedev. The Parties exchanged views on the tendencies of international legal regulation of intellectual property, and discussed the issues of strengthening of cooperation between Russia and WIPO in the sphere of intellectual property protection. A special emphasis was given on the issue of possible holding WIPO Diplomatic Conference on adoption of WIPO Agreement on the legislation in the field of industrial designs in 2014 in Russia and, the issue of opening of WIPO Representation in the Russian Federation.
Within the framework of the visit Mr. F. Gurry had working meetings with Mr. B. Simonov, Head of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent), Mr. G. Gatilov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mrs. L. Novoselova, Chairman of the Court for Intellectual Property Rights.
In the course of the program WIPO’s Director General also visited the Russian State Academy for Intellectual Property (RGAIS), where Mr. F. Gurry gave an open lecture to the students, post-graduate students and lectures of RGAIS, and answered to a number of questions from the side of attendees.
