On April 20-22, 2011 on the eve of World Intellectual Property Day the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry visited Moscow as a guest of the Government of the Russian Federation.
Within the framework of the visit Francis Gurry had working meetings with the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Andrey Fursenko, Director General of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (Rospatent) Boris Simonov, Acting Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Ekaterina Chukovskaya, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Andrey Denisov, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Sergey Katiryn. Following the results of the negotiations with the senior management of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation the parties signed a framework cooperation agreement.
The WIPO Director General also made a presentation at the plenary session of the IV International FORUM «Intellectual Property–XXI century», presented WIPO award to the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation for the contribution to the promotion of the legal system of intellectual property protection and enforcement in the Russian Federation as well as WIPO Gold Medal for Woman Inventor, met with the finalists of the All-Russian Olympiad on Intellectual Property for high school pupils.
Notwithstanding the busy schedule of the meetings, Francis Gurry managed to find time to visit the Russian State Intellectual Property Academy (RGAIS) and render a lecture to RGAIS students, post-graduate students and professors, as well to answer a number of questions of the audience.
The key event of the visit was the meeting of Francis Gurry with Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
