On November 27th, 2009 the eighth meeting of the Russia-EU IP Dialogue took place in the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (Rospatent). Representatives of the European Commission DG Trade, Delegation of the European Commission to Russia, Rospatent, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Health and Social Development, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and other federal executive authorities took part in the meeting.
Both sides discussed the issues of amendments to the Part IV of the Civil Code of Russian Federation, the Customs Code, legislative initiatives in the field of medicines and the adoption of Rospatent administrative regulations prepared within the administrative reform.
Within the discussion of the enforcement activities the Russian side informed on measures taken in counteraction to piracy and production of infringing goods, in particular, on the action “Counterfeit”, and on the custom authorities’ activities. The issue of accreditation procedure of collective management societies for rights of performers and phonogram producers was also discussed. The meeting resulted in an agreement to hold a number of special seminars for experts from both sides.
The EU side provided information on the progress of development of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA).
The Russian side expressed its concern on the issues of registration and legal protection of geographical indications on the EU territory, particularly, of the designation “Russian Vodka”.
