On 27 October 2010 at the premises of the EU Delegation the EPO and Rospatent presented the experiences and achievements of their co-operation under the EU-funded project “Approximation of EU and Russian Federation Intellectual Property Right aspects”.
Representatives of the State Duma, of Ministry of Economic Development, of Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, specialists of the EPO and Rospatent system as well as patent attorneys and media took part in the meeting.
The project comprising five main areas of focus was implemented under the Common Spaces Facility which is intended to facilitate dialogue under the four EU-Russia Common Spaces. Since mid September 2009 specialists of the EPO, Rospatent, Federal Institute of Industrial Property and Russian State Institute of Intellectual Property (RGIIS) have been working hard, studying the Russian patent legislation (and harmonizing it with the European legislation), reviewing streamlining aspects related to patent application, registration and processing. The development of guidelines on the patent examination for use primarily by the patent examiners at Rospatent but also by practitioners, was also a goal of the project.
In order to share information of project activities and ensure awareness at all levels a project website was established where documentation may be freely accessed.
The presentations and discussions took part in a very cordial and constructive atmosphere, the EPO and Rospatent experts explained the achievements and the expected follow on results. The EPO and Rospatent expressed their intention to build upon the momentum generated in the project to continue co-operation in specific components.
