Press release on signing the Memorandum of understanding on carrying out of the pilot project of the Patent Prosecution Highway (РРН) between Rospatent and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO)
On June 23, 2009 the working level meeting between Director General of Rospatent B. Simonov and Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) Dr. Jung-Sik Koh took place in the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (Rospatent).
According to the results of the meeting the Memorandum on intention to cooperate in the framework of the pilot project of the Patent Prosecution Highway (РРН) was signed.
The signing of this document continues the work on realization of bilateral agreements in the sphere of increasing the efficiency of patent examination procedure by avoiding the duplication of efforts of the contracting Offices.
Accelerated examination with respect to a patent application is carried out within the framework of PPH program when the results of patent search and examination of the Office of First Filing are used while considering the application for the given invention in the Office of Second Filing.
According to the reached agreement the pilot program will be commenced on November 2, 2009.
It should be noted that earlier the similar agreement was concluded by Rospatent with the Japan Patent Office (JPO).
At present national patent Offices of the leading countries in the world, such as Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Korea, the Russian Federation, Singapore, Great Britain, the USA, Japan and the European Patent Office (EPO) participate in PPH program.
